The history of the farm Birkegården used to be a smallholding, and we bought it in 1970. Since Finn is a farmer, we extended the farm with land and buildings, so that in 1978 we had a livestock of 100 dairy cows and calves. Merry is a trained porcelain painter, and her artistic and colourful skills may be enjoyed everywhere. Originally, we did not know much about plants; all we wanted was a nice lake and a large lawn. However, the interest emerged, when we laid out the Danish/English Garden. By request, we opened it to the public in July 1996, and since it was such a great success, we laid out the Japanese inspired Promenade Garden in 1997. The Meditation Garden and the Sand Garden were laid out in 1998 and the Shop was established in 1999. Today, we only have a few beef cattle and pets, since from 1999 to 2001 we sold all the dairy cattle. But on the other hand, laying out the gardens - and the plants as such - has become our great hobby. We are self-financing and do not receive any kind of subsidy.
